2026 Nominations Are Open!

With our 2026 convention just around the corner (April 11), it’s time to volunteer for a leadership role in the SD51 DFL. The nominations committee is looking for candidates now.

These are working roles. If you like building things, organizing people, solving problems, or keeping operations tight, there’s a place for you here.

Chair

Leads the senate district unit and keeps the work moving. The Chair sets meeting agendas, runs meetings, coordinates strategy, and ensures the unit meets its obligations under DFL rules. In even-numbered years, the Chair oversees precinct caucuses and the senate district convention. This role requires organization, steady communication, and the ability to bring people together to get real work done.

Vice Chair

Supports the Chair and steps in when needed. The Vice Chair helps coordinate volunteers, manage logistics, and keep major projects — especially caucuses and conventions — running smoothly. This role is ideal for someone who likes solving problems and strengthening the team behind the scenes.

Secretary

Keeps the record straight. The Secretary takes meeting minutes, tracks attendance, maintains official records, and helps distribute communications. Clear documentation keeps the unit accountable and organized — this role is essential to keeping momentum and transparency strong.

Treasurer

Manages the unit’s finances responsibly and transparently. The Treasurer handles the bank account, tracks income and expenses, files required campaign finance reports, and supports fundraising planning. Attention to detail and reliability matter here — strong financial stewardship allows everything else to function.

Outreach & Inclusion Officer

Builds relationships beyond our usual circles. This role focuses on expanding participation, strengthening inclusion, and ensuring our organizing reflects the full diversity of the community. It involves outreach, partnership-building, and helping remove barriers to engagement.

Technology Officer

Helps the senate district work smarter. The Technology Officer identifies, recommends, and implements tools that improve communication, organization, and efficiency. This includes maintaining the website, managing social media platforms, supporting email and digital systems, and helping the unit adopt practical, secure technology solutions.

This role also involves training and support — making sure volunteers can confidently use the tools we rely on. It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys systems thinking, problem-solving, and enabling others to be more effective.

Youth Representative

Serves as a bridge between the senate district and young people in our community. This position is open to someone age 16–18 who is interested in civic engagement and leadership. The Youth Representative helps connect students and young activists to opportunities within the DFL, supports outreach efforts aimed at young voters, and brings a youth perspective into our conversations.

This is a non-voting position, but it carries real influence: the goal is to amplify youth voices, strengthen youth participation, and help build the next generation of organizers and leaders.

Directors

Attend monthly central committee meetings and vote on official business. Directors often serve on committees (communications, organizing, fundraising, events, etc.) and help carry projects forward between meetings. This is a hands-on governance and organizing role.

Delegates to the State Central Committee (SCC)

Represent our senate district at the state level. SCC delegates participate in statewide DFL meetings, vote on party direction, approve budgets, and elect party leadership. This role connects local organizing to statewide strategy and decisions.

Alternates to the State Central Committee

Attend SCC meetings when delegates are unavailable to ensure our district maintains full representation. Alternates stay informed and ready to step in, helping protect our voice in statewide decisions.

These positions are about responsibility, teamwork, and impact — not titles. If you’re dependable, willing to learn, and ready to contribute, you can succeed in any of them.
